Road Warrior: Sanders, Kwee-Wee and Tenay hit the big apple
By Ross Forman
Bronx, NY - Mike Sanders wanted to meet Todd Jones, an
All-Star pitcher for the Detroit Tigers.
Mike Tenay wanted his photo taken with Hall of Fame
broadcaster Ernie Harwell.
And Kwee-Wee wanted Roberto Clemente, Jr. -- son of the
legendary baseball Hall of Famer, and a current New York
Yankee broadcaster -- to strike "the Kwee-Wee" pose.
Missions accomplished for everyone. And then some.
Not only did the WCW trio attend a New York vs. Detroit
game, but they had arguably the best seats in the house.
Kwee-Wee and the Mikes, watched the Yankees win from inside Yankees' principal owner, George
Steinbrenner's, personal suite.
Pre-game, they visited umpire Larry Young, a longtime wrestling fan. After the game, while walking
under the fabled Yankee Stadium, the threesome spotted Jones, an Atlanta native whom Sanders'
dad coached years ago. Next, they found Harwell, and Tenay got to meet one of his personal
heroes.
Billy Connors, a longtime New York coach, greeted the WCW superstars (and Tenay) at the
team's locker room and gave them the royal treatment. Then, before leaving, the trio spotted
Clemente.
Kwee-Wee was thrilled.
